Lexical diversity measures the ratio of unique words to the total number of words in a text. The purpose of lexical diversity measures is to assess the overall richness of a text. When comparing the lexical diversity of two texts, it is important that the texts be roughly equal in length as longer texts will necessarily reduce lexical diversity due to the need to re-use common words.
